What is HOL?

HOL - Virtual Hogwarts is a community and an online school, based on the ideas of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. It is not a role-playing game, though it has some role-playing elements.

Founded in June 2001, thousands of students from 70+ nations are registered in HOL. Adult professors from 4 continents offer more than 40 classes each term, with subjects mentioned in the Harry Potter books, from Potions to Herbology, Muggle Studies to Defense Against the Dark Arts. Additional classes related to literature, writing, fantasy, mythology and music are also popular.

Your aim is to collect points for yourself and your house. The house with the most amount of points at the end of term wins the HOL House Cup.

The real aim, honestly, is to have fun, make new friends, take entertaining classes and rave about your house Quidditch team. The main purpose of HOL is to bring people of all ages, cultures, nations, religions together in one big community and tear down any real or artificial walls that may have been built up by wealth or politics.

The HOL motto is pervalida ars magica amicitia, or friendship is the strongest magic. It is the individual that counts, as stressed by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter books:

"You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!"
"Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open."
"It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
HOL is a family-oriented community and online school, certified by the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), featuring entertainment and educational experiences suitable for all ages. This means:

No nudity
No sexual material
No violence
Mild expletives
No potentially harmful activities
User-generated content such as chat rooms and message boards (moderated)
This material appears in an educational context
By joining HOL, you also agree that you will not use the discussion boards and chatrooms to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise a violation of any law.

So.......as you (may) have read some paragraphs above, this post talks about HOL. I've been playing there for more than 6 months and like it so much! :D

The only problem is assignments. School assignments. Last semester, I played it seriously. If you've read things about HOL, you'd know that there're assignments (too) there since Hogwart is a school. There're some kinds of assignment, well most of them are essay and multiple choice but still...much better than school assignment. And....I really did play it seriously, some of my friends were even confused I still spent my time for this thing instead of hitting the bed (not literally, of course).

And I got their point last January. When the new semester was also begun in HOL. I felt so tired and somehow my passion for this just....lost. And since last March I became a passive member (which is set automatically if you don't earn any point in two months).

Today (5.28.2011) is the first time I signed in again to my HOL account after months. And guess what.......two of four teachers dropped me out of their classes because I hadn't done any assignment. I'm still wondering why the two others haven't dropped me out too. Hahaha :P

But it really fun. Moreover if you're a Harry Potter geek like me (yes, I am). Some subjects even talk about the characters in it, such as Professor Snape.

There're also some awards that you can earn of you do something. As example, I get a Dragon Rider award (from the Dragon subject) because I always did my homework almost perfectly.

There's also a sorting hat. I am a Hufflepuff.....eventhough I like it more to be a Gryffindor. Just kidding. Well if you want to make an account you can go to its web.

Does this post make me look like a nerd? Hihihi *nerd*

P.S. I know I promised you to write something last weekend, but I'm so sorry I couldn't make it because I'd got something to do. And I don't think people wait for my post bytheway.....
